An overnight in Los Angeles

I love LA. It’s so unapologetically authentic. It owns it’s fakeness. I was in Los Angeles on Thursday night to attend a party debuting a collection of never before seen photographs of celebrities from the 50’s and 60’s by photographer John R. Hamilton . Not just any celebrities mind you, but the hippest of hipster, invented-the-swagger-cool celebrities like Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, Johnny Cash and John Wayne just to name a few. The best part about this collection is that the photos are all candid shots. In a time where posed photos were de rigeur – photos of celebrities giving the finger would never be shown in public let alone considered art.

The party was a total blast. Super fun music slash celebrity crowd. The packed event, which spilled out from the gallery through the lobby and filled the outdoor pool area, was at the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood, so that's where I stayed. What a discovery this little gem was and will now be my go-to hotel whenever I'm in LA. Discrete, low-key and rock 'n roll best describes the vibe.

My room…

The hotel grounds...

This was the view from my window when I woke up. I had a morning flight home, so I got up early to fit a workout in. The hotel partners with Equinox which is two blocks away. The weather was close to 70 degrees at 8:00am.

Eighteen hours was not nearly enough. Already planning my next trip…
