A few weeks ago I came across this room and was so taken with how well it is styled.  I filed it away for future inspiration.

Long living room

Until last week, when I noticed this photo below on Coco + Kelley blog.  Was it the same room?  Yes, but shown from the other end!

The first thing that caught my attention is how expertly the furniture is arranged to accommodate the long, narrow shape. It appears there are two entries to the room and two floor-to-ceiling windows.

While some of the fabrics and pieces are not my taste, the layout is one I will learn from. Starting with:

1. Daybed – placing the daybed in the center is brilliant.  It separates the room yet allows a seating option in two opposite directions bringing the ends of the room to the center.  Often in a room of this shape, you will see a sofa with a console table behind it, which separates the room into two different spaces.

2. Camoflaged TV -The shiny black console table makes the TV less apparent, while tying together the dark coffeetable top, and daybed frame. I do wonder if it swivels?

3. Mirror Tiles – I've never used them or thought of using them, but the way they flank the fireplace, adds so much more light to the room, plus it lessens any 'tunnel' feeling.

4. Carpet – It looks like wall-to-wall seagrass.  Is anyone else noticing a carpeting trend starting?

5. Balance – The two seating areas have completely different pieces, yet are perfect compliments to one another. Also, there is a lot of symmetry, which always helps to create continuity in larger or odd shaped rooms.

What I love most about this room is that it is extremely elegant yet totally unpretentious.

If anyone knows the designer or original source, please let me know so I can give credit!
